Entrance and Barrier Mats

Basic Functions Of Entrance Mats

There are a few basic functions that good-quality entrance mats must fulfill. Firstly, they must stop the soil and water at the door – usually the most effective barrier mats give a combination of scraping and wiping, which stops the maximum amount of contaminants. Secondly, they should also store the soil and water for removal. Ideally, most mats should have a place for the soil and water to go to, for the purpose of store – till it can be removed through cleaning later. Thus, a good mat should be designed in such a manner that it can ensure maximum storage, and the removal of the soil and water should be easy. The contaminants should also be contained effectively so that they do not spread to the surrounding floor – as this would possibly create safety hazards. Minimum seepage should be ensured – so water should not flow off the sides of the mat.
